PERGE : (Antalya) Tidiest remains of Rome

17 kilometers away from downtown Antalya, Perge is the best organized Roman period city not only of the region but also that of the entire Anatolia. Probably since it was not a sea side city, Perge had been fortunate enough to develop without being distırbed very much by the pirates' raids; thus making Antalya Museum as one of the richest sculpture museums in the world. The magnificence of the sculptures found in the excavations are the very proofs of Perke's once being the school for sculpture and architecture. Perge is also prominent city for the Christians; according to the New Testament, St.Paul and Barnabas had visited Perge
